A LOT OF WELDING MACHINES WILL NOT GO TO HIGH IDLE RIGHT OR HAS A BAD ARC. THE SLIP RINGS AND ARMATURE SURFACES SHOULD BE KEPT CLEAN . AS THE BRUSHES WEAR AND ARC THEY LEAVE A CARBON DEPOSIT ON THE ARMATURE AND SLIP RINGS CAUSING MANY PROBLEMS EVEN NO ARC AT ALL. IF YOU REPLACE THE BRUSHES ON ANY WELDER THE BRUSHES NEED TO BE SEATED AND THESE STONES WILL HELP THAT PROCESS .
IF YOU HAVE A BRUSH THAT HAS ARCED ON THE SLIP RINGS AND LEFT A GROOVE THESE WILL IN MOST CASES REMOVE THE GROVES.
